           Edward Albert (The Fonz) Manley

                     August 16, 1919 - October 26, 2016

                                                 Residence: Reno, Nevada

 

 

 

Edward (The Fonz) Albert Manley, 97 years young, of Reno, Nevada, passed away on October 26, 2016, from natural causes. 

The funeral service will be held at a future date at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. 

Ed was born in Sacramento, California on August 16, 1919. He graduated from Palo Alto High School and ultimately received an Associate of Arts Degree from Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno, Nevada. 


Ed was a veteran of the US Navy. He enlisted in 1941 and retired as a Boatswain's Mate Second Class from the US Navy Reserve on April 1, 197 4. Ed was a member of the America Legion Darrell Dunkle Post 1 in Reno. Along with his US Navy reserve status Ed was one of the original Reno Airport Police Officers. He became a Reno Police Officer in 1973 and retired from the Department in 1981. Ed was a member of the Reno Police Protective Association. After leaving Reno Ed continued his law enforcement career becoming the Chief of Police in Carlin, Nevada in 1983. After retiring from his career in law enforcement Ed became a volunteer for the Reno SAVE program and remained very active in the Reno community. Ed loved Happy Day's and took on the nickname of the Fonz. Ed kept his very black hair and moustache until he was about 95 years old. 

Ed was a super friend to everyone and was very outgoing. He loved his Harley, his Corvette, his Firebird, his friends and most especially his family. 

Ed is survived by his son Eddie Manley of Reno, his daughter Maureen Stiley of Shoreline, Washington, his sister Pat Summers of Jackson, California, and other family and friends. 

Ed was preceded in death by his father Edward Patrick Manley and his mother Hazel Alberta Shorter. 

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Reno Police Department or the SAVE Program or the Reno Police Protective Association Widow's and Orphan's fund. 

Ed is now in Heaven with God, his angels, his family and many friends. He had a great life and we really are going to miss him.
